There are rumours beginning to circulate about a second Firefly movie. Is there a chance of Serenity 2? On pure numbers, I’d say there’s no chance. But based on the way Firefly keeps on coming back, I’d say it’s definitely possible. We’ll see what happens.

    The news that was heard,(will return with links to later)was that the sales of the new special edition DVD that came out, would be indicative of the option (which is open) to run with a script for a second movie. this means, if you want a second movie, or more Firefly…go buy the new DVD of Serenity Special Edition.

    And by going with that thought, Sales of a second movie would determine if more financial backing was given to push the MMO foreward.(e.g. Licensing…it’s all about the additionals to movies) I want me a serenity lunchbox!

    Alan Tudyk said at Armageddon Australia this past weekend, that if the new Spec-ed DVD sales go well, they are planning to make a second movie.

    He also stated that he was assured he would be in it, but was unsure how they would do that.

    Couldn’t agree more, but the sad part is (Though I don’t have a source so if anyone can check me on this one) Whedon seems to have gotten tired of making TV series, especially after how Fox went out of their way to kill the show, so he went to movies instead.

    I was honestly surprised that the first one went to movie and SciFi didn’t take up the banner of Firefly and run with it until I heard that.

    Stargate is now known as the longest consecutively running show (as promoted by SciFi channel). It started as a movie. Firefly started as a show, and now has a movie. If the second movie is ever released, and the sales make it worth it, SciFi may also pick it up at some point. Will it match the quality of Whedon’s work in season 1? No idea, but I would love it if they got the opportunity to try.
